SM Skating Acquires New Skates

Rejoice, recreational and budding skaters alike! SM Skating acquired new rental figure skates this week. A delivery of 100 new pairs of 33 to 38 boot sizes (US size 2 to 7.5, UK size 1 to 5) recently arrived at the SM Megamall Skating Rink, and 400 more pairs – including larger sizes! – are already on the way.

The new skates arrived just last Monday, April 24 2017, so they are still a bit stiff due to their newness, but a few more hours on the ice can break them in nicely. They are lighter and more comfortable than the previous Jackson rental skates, with newly sharpened and currently rust-free blades that feature a large ROH so it’s easier to glide on the ice without fear of slipping. (ROH stands for Radius of Hollow. A larger ROH of 5/8″ to 1″ makes gliding easier, while a smaller ROH of 1/2″ to 3/8″  has more “bite” or grip on the ice.)

Like the old rental skates, they mainly cater to the average person’s foot. Someone with wider feet might need to go a size up while someone with slimmer feet would need to lace the boots up more tightly for it to feel right. Either way, the boots are comfortable enough for a whole day on the ice with breaks in between.

SM Skating offers unlimited all-day skating for only P450.00 at SM Megamall and SM Mall of Asia and P420.00 at SM Southmall and SM Seaside Cebu. Try them out while they’re still new and let us know what you think!
